The yearbook is something that many people look forward to at the end of the year and this year is no exception. With all 58 members of the yearbook class putting in especially hard work for this year's edition, we can all expect it to have a great outcome.
Yearbook is more than what people make it out to be. When talking to chief editor Yancey Matal about what it takes to put the yearbook together he gave some interesting behind the scenes information.
“The yearbook gets made into a two semester process. In first semester we decide what pages are the easiest to do, which is usually the entire senior section and portraits, and second semester involves a lot more of the heavy content, such as clubs academics, student life, and the types of the things you wait more for second semester to get more information on.
As the semesters go on every student works on the yearbook and towards the end of the semesters myself, leads, and advisers stay together after school everyday for a week or two to go over the yearbook and proof it as much as we can to take out as much mistakes as we can.”
With all the meticulous work put into our school yearbook every year it’s fascinating to learn the different strategies the yearbook class uses and how they prepare for each class. According to Seanna Ochoa, who is a yearbook lead, the yearbook get separated into many different parts to specific groups of people and the preparation of this can take some time.
“Out of the different categories that school is separated into, whether it be academics, student life, sports, clubs, it is distributed to different seniors or juniors and those students get other groups of kinds to help what goes into that section and each student gets to pick what subject they would like to write about.”
The yearbook deadline was April 12th and last week held a lot of pressure on the students as well as Mr. Flores and Mr. Ayllon. Regardless of how much pressure it put on them, Mr. Flores said that this year's class works fast and efficient.
“The yearbook this year is heading in the direction of being more professional in its writing as well as its design. We are really excited about this years theme and the planning that went behind it. I believe it is going to impress a lot of the students because it's going to be really different from what they saw last year with our yearbook Unleashed. The yearbooks design is only improving year after year.”
Given the opportunity to learn more of what goes on behind the yearbook making process was very eye opening and hopefully it gave those who are reading this the same feeling.
