The CAASPP exam is approaching soon, taking place from April 1 - April 12. The grades taking the exam are : 6, 8, 10 & 11.

Why take the exam? Well, the state of California requires schools to administer this exam mainly to encourage a proper education from faculty teaching to students aspiring to learn. Even though, there are more reasons when it comes to questioning why we take the exam, the substantial reason is to ensure our education.

This week the English part of the CAASPP exam will take place, then the following week the Math part will take session.

A common question when it comes to this test is, the overall benefits of taking it. A benefit of this would be that teachers can see their students’ progress when it comes to the material that they are being taught. Such as, what have they mastered and what they are struggling on.

A special benefit for the juniors would be that they have have the opportunity to be exempt from college / university entrance exams if they receive a good score in English and Math.

The CAASPP is a test that takes time to prepare for. Thus, being the reason why students take a practice test beforehand. To be prepared for the exam all the student would have to do is pay attention in class as well as be serious when it comes to actually taking the test. When reviewing for the test asking questions is a great way to foresee the curriculum.

Being well rested, eating a proper breakfast, also arriving to class on time would be a great way to be ready for the CAASPP.

The administrators of the CAASPP at TPAA, Mr. Ayllon (English) and Ms. Delestre (Math) believe that the system is “pretty good” and are looking forward to the future of this exam. “We also like how useful the tests are to teachers and schools. They indicate if the teacher and school are on track with the state-mandated standards. We can then compare how we are all doing with other schools. At the end of the day, it motivates teachers to push students further and to prepare them for the future.”

Good luck to all students taking the CAASPP this school year ! Make sure that if you are taking the exam to be prepared and give it your 110%.
