Captain Marvel: Generic Superhero or New Fan Favorite?

Captain Marvel was recently released and the excitement couldn’t have been any bigger. On just its opening weekend, it made $153 million domestically and $302 million internationally, according to Box Office Mojo. This ranks it as the second most domestically grossing solo Marvel film, right after Black Panther.

The movie, starring Brie Larson as the lead, focuses on the character Vers. She is a Kree warrior fighting a battle against the Skrull. As her story progresses, she finds herself on Earth trying to piece together her memories with her past.

Captain Marvel is set in 1995, long before the Avengers were even formed. This movie acts as an origin story for her and the reason she’ll be appearing in Endgame. However, it also acts as an origin story for the whole MCU.

Although the movie has gotten mixed reviews—some saying it was worth the watch, others disagreeing. Captain Marvel definitely deserves being watched just for the background it provides.

It shouldn’t be a surprise that Marvel is no stranger to storytelling. Every movie they produce eventually brings lose ends together. Captain Marvel is no exception.

With its previous release of Infinity War and its much anticipated release of Endgame, Captain Marvel was a must to be able to tie both movies in together. It also added more context to other aspects, like how The Avengers began and even how Nick Fury loses his eye.

There a few funny moments, just as there always is in Marvel movies and they are definitely ones you don’t wanna miss. Including the adorable cat Goose and the mystery it holds.

Don’t forget the movie even starts out with a tribute to Stan Lee.

Although Captain Marvel is far from perfect and I wouldn’t call her the new fan favorite, she is definitely a much needed character. Strong female leads are rare enough as is. Especially seeing as it is the MCU’s first ever female lead.

If none of this is convincing enough, going to watch the movie for Goose is a must.
