The Humanities Building rule must go

If you have ever stayed after school for any activities or to makeup assignments in the classrooms inside the Humanities building, then you have probably noticed that the doors to enter are locked.
For many this rule has deemed an inconvenience especially for people having to constantly enter and transport things within the building.
This rule was first enforced in the beginning of the 2018-2019 school year requiring campus administrators to promptly lock buildings after 3:15 after school. But many students and teachers have scorned upon this rule with varying temperaments.
The ultimate question many students and teachers have is, why was this rule put into place ?
According to the Head Campus Security Manager Gaby the time it is closed “gives students just enough time to make it to any tutoring or after school sessions.” and was enforced for “disciplinary reasons”, such as “horseplay”.
While a provision of the rule outlined that any supervisors around the area, particularly the amphitheatre were to open the doors for students looking to get in after school. This is a faulty guarantee, as the campus supervisors are not always present around the area and students need to approach them for something that could be prevented if they were just unlocked.
Students should not be restricted from accessing a building where there is chairs to lounge after school and classrooms that many need to access in order for tutoring or finding a place to study.
As if TPAA was not a haven compared to other schools in the Antelope Valley; we are paying the price for occasions of “horseplay” and in the most ridiculous way.
“If you’re not here for tutoring, then I’m going to have to ask you to leave”, is what is frequently told to students simply sitting on the chairs the school provides.
During the cold and rainy seasons, the H-building is an area where students can find warmth waiting for their rides and in the meantime catch up on Homework. I have seen students with no sweaters or jackets, simply a shirt to protect them from the weather - told to leave the building.
It is unfortunate that many students are asked to leave, while teachers are still present in the building. If no teachers were present in the building then there would be some understanding, to an extent.
“I think it’s a dumb rule so as long as there are teachers in there, we should be able to enter”, remarked Senior Anthony Liakopoulos
I have also witnessed many occasions of teachers forgetting their keys while transporting chromebooks and other utilities within the building.
In accordance to Junior Dio Gamble the school at one point proposed for students to stay after school in attempts to have “75 percent” of students on campus involved in clubs and activities. “ I think it is inconvenient and inconsistent with the ideals of Tpaa”, He mentioned.
It now seems as if the priority is to get students out when they were once given a sense of “implied mandatory” to stay after school, as Dio feels about the rule.
Many students and teachers have raised their frustrations about the inconveniences in the humanities building and now it is up for administrators to act on our behalf.
