Imagine that you are 17 or 18 years old. You’re a high school Senior and only a couple of months away from graduating. Yet, before marking the end of your high school journey by turning your tassel to the left, there’s some memorable events before that special occasion, like Prom and of course, Grad Night.
Grad Night is a high school tradition that has been going on for generations. It is a time for high school Seniors to have some fun after months and months of hard work. This can be just as big as Prom and Graduation Day. It’s a time to make some memories with friends before they are off to begin a new chapter in their lives. Let’s just take the time to reflect about said event.
Grad Night was originally thought of teens drinking and driving. Other ideas of Grad Night consisted of having Seniors take a trip by bus to Disneyland or other amusement parks to have a fun time. To add, parents and other areas in Orange County, California began hosting their own Grad Night celebrations on their own college campuses in the 1980’s. The tradition is still seen as one of the major highlights for a high school Senior today.
Now, as a student, they may think of it as a “waste of money.” Others may think that it might be fun, but it is way too expensive. Well, the way I see it is an unpredictable adventure. You don’t know what would happen, but all you know is that you would surrounded by friends that care about you. They always say, “You’re only a Senior once,” so you won’t ever get to have an opportunity like that again. In the end, you have to think about if it is worth it or not. I don’t how many Seniors are going to it or not, but just think: Good times come and go, but the memories will last forever.
