Dylan’s Sports Edition: Griffin Soccer

Well, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I’m afraid I have some. Recently, both the Boys and Girls Varsity Soccer Teams lost their playoff games. Both teams had advanced through the first round of playoffs, but only to find their demise in the second round of playoffs. Both teams were impressive in playoffs, even though they only made it to the second round. Let’s take a look at the two teams individually.

First, the Girls Varsity Soccer Team. They won their division, just like the Boys Varsity Soccer team. With a record of 9-0-1 in league play, they were unstoppable. They played aggressive, worked as a team, and in the end, they tasted victory. However, in playoffs, the team played two very good teams. The first round in playoffs was against Lennox Academy on February 6, 2019, at 3pm. It was considered to be a “home non-conference game.” However, it still mattered because it would determined who would advance. They took the match with a very close score of 1-0. The second round was just as competitive as the first round, but they received the other end of the stick coming out with a loss against Jurupa Valley with a score of 1-0 on February 8, 2019. It was a hard loss, but the Girls Varsity Soccer Team should still hold their heads high as they aim to return to the playoffs once again.

Next, the Boys Varsity Soccer Team. Just like the Girls Varsity Soccer Team, they had also won their division with a league record of 11-0-1. They played like a well-oiled machine on the field, defeating their opponents one after the other. Speaking of defeating, on February 7, 2019, at 3pm, they had their first playoff game against Big Bear. They killed them 10-1 in the opening round. On the other hand, they would finally taste defeat in the second round against Thacher on February 9, 2019 with a score of 4-2. Still, they should keep their heads up as well for they, too, aim to go to playoffs again.

Overall, both teams are deadly on the field. They practically go hand in hand. As they emerge victorious, we can see more playoff appearances in the future from each team. Who knows? Maybe, one day, both teams can win it all. That’s one big goal to achieve. Go Griffins!
