Gabriel Fernandez, Palmdale boy who fell victim to torture and abuse

In 2013, Palmdale boy, Gabriel Fernandez, was found unresponsive at his mother’s and mother’s boyfriend’s apartment. Prosecutors claim Gabriel’s mother, Pearl Fernandez, and her boyfriend, Isauro Aguirre, are guilty of torturing and murdering Gabriel, and are currently on trial separately. Authorities claim that Fernandez and Aguirre beat her 8-year-old son to death as well as abused the child severely for years. Criminalist Tiffany Shew had shown jurors photo after photo of where the alleged abuse had taken place, with the jury sometimes, ‘’gasping’’ and “sobbing’’from what they learned. Hundreds of blood stains, DNA samples, and indentation marks were found around the apartment on a wooden club, a black bat, and a data cord. Prosecutors say there was DNA found inside a cabinet where it was suspected Gabriel had been locked in for hours, (known as The Box), with no food/water, or bathroom access and they believe Fernandez was also bound and gagged by the couple. Gabriel was rushed pediatric intensive care unit at the Antelope Valley Hospital and was then taken to Children's Hospital Los Angeles and examined by Dr. Alyssa Rake before shortly passing away from his grave injuries. Rake stated, “I found no brain function. He was confirmed to be brain dead.’’. Rake also found a broken skull, removed teeth, rib fractures, a BB gun pellet lodged in his lung, bruising in his eyes, a cut to his liver with a hematoma on it, and a deep lash to the base of his penis along with a burn mark. Gabriel was not able to survive such horrific actions; he was taken off life support two days later and pronounced dead. Recently, Gabriel's brother, Ezequiel, has given insight to the jury on what life was like for his brother, stating to the court that the 8 year old suffered regular beatings from his mother and Aguirre, and that they allegedly laughed during the beatings. Recent updates report that Gabriel was forced to eat cat feces and cat litter. “My mom and her boyfriend made Gabriel eat spoiled or expired stuff,” he testified. “One thing I remember is expired spinach. He threw it up, and they made him eat it off the table.”. When asked if Aguirre made him eat his vomit, Ezequiel responded, “Yes.”. Gabriel’s suffering at the time including; social workers,school nurses, his school teacher and even school security guards, with many of them now facing trial for their obliviousness.
